Dota 2’s The International 2024: Venue, dates, tickets, invitations, and more

Dota 2’s The International stands as the apex of competitive Dota, transcending a mere tournament to become a celebration of the beloved game we all cherish. It's as much about community as it is about professional players vying for the coveted Aegis of Champions.

At its core, the event gathers the best Dota 2 talent to compete for substantial cash prizes and the prestigious title of champion. After years headquartered in Seattle, the Aegis has journeyed across countries and continents. The 2024 edition sees 16 teams converging on a new battleground for a chance at glory.

The 2024 edition of The International will unfold at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. It marks the first time since 2021, when the event took place behind closed doors in Bucharest, Romania, that TI will grace European soil with its presence.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TI 2021 couldn't host a live audience. Thus, this edition marks the return of a live European crowd since the tournament's debut in 2011 in Cologne, Germany.

The Royal Arena boasts a capacity of 16,000 and has previously hosted various esports tournaments beyond Dota, including multiple BLAST Counter-Strike events and this year's PGL Copenhagen Major.

When will TI 2024 take place?

TI 2024 is set to commence on September 4, 2024, as per Valve's blog post on March 8. Below are the dates for each main segment of the tournament and its qualifying process:

Regional qualifiers open bracket: June 3 to 8
Regional qualifier closed bracket: Following the Open Bracket
The Road to the International (TI group stage): September 4 to 8
The Road to the International (TI playoffs): September 10 to 12
The International (TI top eight playoffs): September 13 to 15

This timeline gives teams a mere six months from the start of the season to the grand event. With the DPC concluded, invite decisions rested solely on Valve's discretion, reminiscent of TI's early years. Valve stated that there was ample Dota action before the invite issuance, providing teams with opportunities to secure their spots at TI.

In addition to direct invites (at Valve's discretion), Dota 2 teams can qualify for TI 2024 through regional qualifiers. Valve indicated that teams would be evaluated for invitations based on their performance throughout 2024, with events across multiple regions carrying significant weight.

Invitations and qualifier teams were unveiled on May 27 following the conclusion of DreamLeague Season 23, the second-to-last event in the ESL Pro Tour calendar before the Riyadh Masters in June. Six teams secured direct invites to TI 2024, while the team rosters for regional qualifiers were also disclosed.
