Dota is the best Esports Game

The annual Game Awards, celebrating achievements in the video game industry, will take place on 12 December. This major event unites awards, new project announcements, and exciting trailers, making it one of the most highly anticipated events of the year.  

Major Nominations and Contenders 

Game of the Year 

In 2023, the prestigious Game of the Year award was claimed by Baldur's Gate III, and this year, the following titles are competing for the title:  

- Astro Bot  

- Balatro  

- Black Myth: Wukong  

- Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree  

- Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth  

- Metaphor: ReFantazio  

Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth lead with the most nominations, each receiving seven. The publishers Sony, Square Enix, Xbox, and Sega are also strongly represented, highlighting the diversity of genres and styles within the industry.  

Other notable nominations include: 

- Best Game Direction: the same six contenders as in the GOTY category.  

- Best Music and Soundtrack: titles such as Astro Bot, Silent Hill 2, and Stellar Blade are competing for recognition for their musical scores.  

- Best Independent Game: projects like Animal Well and Balatro showcase the strength of the indie scene.  

- Most Anticipated Game: there is huge interest in Grand Theft Auto VI and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.  

Special Attention to Esports 

The esports section includes nominations for the best games, teams, and players. Contenders for Best Esports Game include:  

- DOTA 2  

- Counter-Strike 2  

- League of Legends  

- Valorant  

Best Esports Player features names like Faker, ZyWoO, and 33, while the Best Esports Team nominees include Team Liquid, T1, and Bilibili Gaming.  

Premieres and Exclusives 

The Game Awards are renowned for their exclusive announcements. This year, we can expect not only details about games like Ghost of Yotei and Monster Hunter Wilds, but also the premieres of new projects. Host Geoff Keighley has promised surprises that will stun even the most seasoned viewers.
