Gaimin Gladiators Captains Address Dota 2 Matchmaking Issues

The leading players of the Western European team Gaimin Gladiators, captain Melchior “Seleri” Hillenkamp and mid-laner Quinn “Quinn” Callahan, have voiced their concerns about the current state of matchmaking in Dota 2. Both players highlighted the growing problem of account boosting and its impact on game quality, while also calling for improvements to the ranked matchmaking system.

Seleri: Party Ranked and Combating Boosting

Melchior “Seleri” Hillenkamp shared his thoughts on social media platform X, urging Valve to reinstate party ranked matchmaking:

“I hope they can find a better way to tackle account buying/selling. I can imagine it’s not easy. And maybe, just maybe, we could get party ranked back for Christmas? Dota 2 with a friend > solo.”

Seleri’s statement reflects the community’s longstanding request to bring back the ability to compete in ranked matchmaking with friends. He also underlined the issue of account trading, which undermines efforts to maintain a fair and balanced matchmaking environment.

Quinn: Matchmaking in Decline

Seleri’s teammate, Quinn “Quinn” Callahan, expressed his frustration with the current state of matchmaking in the same social media thread:

“MMR inflating and boosting have reached such a ridiculous scale that I’m just shocked. Valve, PLEASE DO SOMETHING! Remove double down if you have to—I don’t care, but how can this go unaddressed for so long? It’s driving me insane.”

Quinn pointed to the issue of “MMR inflation” and boosting, which disrupt game balance and degrade the experience even for top-tier players.

The Boosting Problem: What’s the Issue?

Account boosting has long been one of Dota 2’s most pressing problems. Skilled players seeking to monetise their abilities often level up accounts to sell them to those who want to skip the grind of ranked progression. This leads to highly skilled players appearing in low-ranked games, damaging the balance and enjoyment for others.

Both Gaimin Gladiators players have united their voices to call Valve to take decisive action against matchmaking abuses. The return of party-ranked matchmaking and measures to address account boosting are two key community demands. These changes could greatly improve the Dota 2 experience for players and serve as a clear response from Valve that they are listening to their audience's concerns.
