Invictus Gaming and Azure Ray Close Their Dota 2

Chinese esports organisation Invictus Gaming (iG) has announced the temporary closure of its Dota 2 division. The news was shared through an official post on the club's Weibo page. iG first signed a Dota 2 roster back in 2011, becoming one of the most well-known teams in esports history. However, the organisation is now temporarily stepping away from the discipline.

This decision comes after the conclusion of iG’s partnership with G2 Esports in December last year. Previously, the G2 x iG roster finished 13th-16th at The International 2024, marking the end of the team, which was disbanded shortly thereafter.

In addition to iG, another Chinese organisation, Azure Ray, also recently announced the temporary closure of its Dota 2 division. The decision was influenced by issues with the roster and unsatisfactory results.

With iG and Azure Ray stepping back from Dota 2, NAVI remains the only organisation that continues to compete in the discipline since The International 2011 (TI1). This highlights their stability and longevity in Dota 2, despite rapid changes in the esports landscape.

Among teams from The International 2012 (TI2), only NAVI and Mouz (who previously competed under the Mousesports tag) remain active in Dota 2. Additionally, it has been reported that LGD has not participated in tournaments since August 2024, with rumours suggesting the organisation has frozen its Dota 2 division, although no official announcements have been made.

These developments reflect the fast-paced changes in the esports world, where many organisations face challenges that impact their continued involvement in Dota 2. Meanwhile, NAVI remains a steady presence, continuing to uphold its position as one of the most enduring teams in the history of the game.
