Russian carry player Ilya "Kiritych" Ulyanov reflected on the current state of matchmaking in Dota 2. According to him, it's currently disadvantageous to be among the top players because it takes a very long time to find a game with high ratings.
“There's a desire to raise the MMR to 14,000 due to the introduction of double-down tokens. If you sit and try hard for a month, you can raise it within that time.
But it's currently not advantageous to be a player with a high MMR. It's just trash. If you're in the tenth rank, it takes 5-10 minutes to find a match. You need something in between. Rank 200 would be fine. Games are found very quickly there. The downside is you don't draft.” - Ilya "Kiritych" Ulyanov
Double-down tokens returned to Dota 2 in mid-April. They can be activated before the start of a match. The button is located on the left side of the screen, slightly above the mini-map.
While some gamers appreciate the addition of double-down tokens for the opportunity to increase their MMR more quickly, a majority feel that it creates an unfair advantage, further exacerbating the matchmaking issues for high-ranked players.
