NS about the holding of the TI13 group stage from the hotel

Streamer and former professional player Yaroslav 'NS' Kuznetsov discussed on his Twitch stream why Valve continues the tradition of holding the group stage of The International in practice rooms rather than on a main stage.

Kuznetsov noted that a long time ago, Valve introduced a rather questionable system where teams played part of the tournament from hotel practice rooms rather than on a stadium or stage. This system was initially intended to create a unique and festive atmosphere for the players. Kuznetsov recalled that during the early Internationals, especially the third and fourth, the event was designed with player comfort in mind, including office tours and various treats near practice areas.

However, he pointed out that this approach has since changed. Nowadays, teams travel to different countries, and the personal touch and care from Valve have diminished. The International is now largely managed by PGL, with the hotel-based portion of the event appearing poorly organised. Kuznetsov expressed disappointment, stating that the current setup, with its makeshift furniture and disorganisation, detracts from the prestige of the tournament. He attributed this to cost-saving measures, as using hotel rooms is cheaper and easier logistically than setting up a dedicated stage or arena.

Earlier, Kuznetsov commented on the performance of Miroslav 'Mira' Kolpakov while watching The International 2024.
