Analyst and streamer Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov discussed the impact of MMR (Matchmaking Rating) on the skill level in Dota 2. He believes that there should be a direct correlation between them, but currently, this is not the case.
"6500 MMR, which I have just by playing, can be achieved by any random player. It's not a rating where you need to think or analyze much. You don't even need talent for it," said NS.
"But this raises a question: playing a lot should make you better at the game. There should be a direct correlation. Yet, you often encounter people who have no understanding of what's going on. They endlessly chat without any comprehension of their surroundings," continued Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov.
"The issue isn't the number of games per day but the duration of the process. Different people need a varying number of games. You just need to play a lot, and such a rating becomes easy to achieve. Currently, it's a low benchmark"
"Still, when playing at this level, you expect a bit more understanding from people. So, it's unclear... Either there are a lot more account buyers or the rating has become so accessible that you run into absolute noobs"
Previously, Bogdan "Iceberg" Vasilenko called on Valve to reset the Dota 2 ranking system. He believes that the game has too many players abusing MMR. In June, Kuznetsov also speculated about the future of B8 after their failure in the qualifiers for The International 2024. He suggested that Danil "Dendi" Ishutin's team might disband.
