Vladislav "Petushara" Kozlovsky, a Belarusian esports player and caster, shared his views on the ban on in-game advertising at The International 2024 in Dota 2.
He mentioned that he doesn't believe this will significantly impact viewers. The International has usually been covered on a dedicated tournament channel, where ads were typically absent. He noted that frequent mentions of betting companies during a stream with sound could be more distracting than the in-game ads, which many viewers might not even notice.
Kozlovsky sees this change as a negative development since it makes the scene less attractive to betting companies. He pointed out that teams would be left with fewer advertising options, primarily relying on their own content on their channels, especially since they can't mention sponsors in their names.
The International 2024 will take place from 4 to 15 September in Copenhagen, featuring 16 teams competing for a base prize pool of $1.6 million.
