American voice actor Sam Maury died at the age of 64. This was reported by his wife Cindy McGinn and content creator Vikram Reddy on social media.
Maury’s heart stopped while preparing for surgery. Prior to this, the actor was diagnosed with atherosclerosis, which required surgical intervention. The doctors were unable to save him.
"Rest in peace. Thank you for being the voice of incredible and memorable moments cherished by people around the world. Every time a Dota player wonders 'What does a hero truly need?' a phrase from the secret shopkeeper in Dota 2, it will forever be immortalized by your voice. Thank you," Vikram Reddy expressed.
Sam Maury was well-known in the Dota community. He gave his voice to the secret shopkeeper, Anti-Mage, Beastmaster, Clockwerk, Necrophos, Slardar, and Warlock. Additionally, he worked with the creators of League of Legends.
This is the third death of a Dota voice actor in recent years. Before him, Barry Dennen (Phantom Lancer, Rubick, and Chaos Knight) and Jim French (Elder Titan and Bill from Left 4 Dead) passed away.
