During a personal Twitch stream, Alexander 'Nix' Levin reminisced about the times when Dota 2 offered more variability and wasn’t constrained by a specific meta.
Levin expressed dissatisfaction with the current meta, wishing for the game to evolve towards a more high-skill environment. He noted that the current effective strategies involve items like Eul's Scepter of Divinity, Force Staff, and Blink Dagger on Centaur Warrunner, which can easily stun multiple enemies. He remarked that while this is currently the most effective way to play Dota 2, it is not the direction he hopes the game will take.
He empathised with players like Magomed 'Collapse' Khalilov, who dislike the current meta and auras, yet feel compelled to play in that manner due to the game's trends.
Levin lamented the loss of variability in Dota 2, stating that players are forced to adhere to the meta or risk losing, regardless of their skill level. Earlier, he advised low-rank players to play in a way that they enjoy rather than strictly following the meta, to ensure the game remains enjoyable.
