Kazakhstani carry player Alimzhan "Watson" Islambekov reflected on how newcomers should approach low-rank Dota 2 matches. According to him, such players should opt for active heroes instead of solely focusing on farming throughout the game.
"You need to pay attention to the laning stage. You'll have to lane with support, and not everyone knows how to play this position, even at high ranks. You should assess when it's necessary to block the large or small camps and when to control the runes. In low ranks, as a carry, you can start snowballing in the first minutes of the game.
Secondly, you should pick heroes that are strong in the laning phase but aren't solely focused on farming. It's unlikely you'll be able to raise your MMR playing greedy heroes at low ranks. While you're farming creeps, you're relinquishing control of the game to your team, and there's no guarantee they'll perform well. It's better to play active heroes like Morphling, Templar Assassin, Meepo." - Alimzhan "Watson" Islambekov
Previously, Islambekov admitted that he's no longer interested in topping the ladder. Now, the esports player enjoys the game and doesn't worry about MMR.
