Professional player Andrey "Afoninje" Afonin discussed rune fights in Dota 2. He expressed his dissatisfaction with Dmitry "Fishman" Polishchuk's death against beastcoast in the Riyadh Masters 2024 play-in.
"I sometimes don't understand moves when there's no chance to take the rune. There are five seconds against Shadow Demon; what should you do? Turn around and leave. Why feed? You can't take the rune from this hero because he'll hide you," Afonin explained.
"If there's a chance to out click, you should do it. But if there's no chance, just give up the damn rune. Why feed and give a frag to the mid-laner?" Afonin expressed.
Afoninje was referring to Fishman's move on the second map of the Entity Gaming vs. beastcoast match. Polishchuk crossed into enemy territory and tried to steal the wisdom rune but died to Luis "Lumpy" Yasin.
