All Dota 2 Innate Ability Passives

Dota 2's complexity knows no bounds, with Valve continually redefining the MOBA genre through various features. From the day-night cycle to Runes, Watchers, Lotus Pools, and more, there's always something new for players to learn.

Whether you're a veteran or a newbie, it's time to hit the books as we explore another intriguing game mechanic—Innate abilities. Here's everything you need to know about Innate abilities and a list of each hero's Innate in Dota 2.

What Are Innate Abilities in Dota 2?

Innate abilities in Dota 2 were introduced in gameplay patch 7.36. These abilities are locked and available to a hero throughout the entire game, from the first spawn to the destruction of the fountain. Each hero possesses a unique Innate ability; some will be familiar to long-time Dota players, some are reworked passives we know and love, and others are entirely new.

Some Innate abilities can be activated for a significant boost, while others can be leveled up like regular abilities, with each level providing a greater bonus. Some are passive effects that apply while the hero is alive, others activate upon the hero's death, and some change the game completely—like Dawnbreaker’s Innate, which grants map-wide visibility for a brief moment whenever the sun rises.

The tooltip for each Innate ability can be found on the icon between the Talent tree and the hero’s main abilities.
