Team Liquid’s coach, William "Blitz" Lee, reacted emotionally to the team’s victory at The International 2024 in Dota 2. During an interview following the grand final, he was seen in tears.
He expressed that he had not made personal sacrifices for the team; rather, it was the players who took a risk by bringing in someone who had never coached a champion team before. Blitz reflected on the many defeats the team had faced, noting that they had not won anything for five years and could have disbanded numerous times as suggested by others. Despite not qualifying for TI, Liquid kept them on, and Blitz was simply relieved that players like Zai, Nisha, and MATU (MATUMBAMAN) took a chance and were willing to play with them. He was particularly grateful that he hadn't ruined Nisha’s career.
Blitz also thanked those who supported them, including Chloe, Jabbz, Kpii, John, Viktor, and Mark, acknowledging that success requires teamwork and that he could not have achieved it alone. He admitted that while he may not be the best on his own, he is surrounded by outstanding individuals.
The International 2024 took place from 4 to 15 September in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a prize pool of $2.5 million. In the grand final, Team Liquid defeated Gaimin Gladiators 3:0, having not lost a single map in the playoff stage. For their victory, Team Liquid earned over $1.15 million.
