DM: "What's the point of selling a Dota account for $3-4 thousand when you just got $150,000?"
On June 30, Entity Gaming offlaner Dmitry "DM" Dorokhin recalled the scandal involving the sale of a Dota 2 account. He reiterated that he did not do it.
"Pro players often play on smurf accounts. At that time, I took an account from an acquaintance because I didn't have my own second account. If I want to play on a smurf, I need to take one from someone. I played on his account for a while without giving it a second thought. Playing on smurfs is more relaxed than on the main account.
You don't care about the rating; it's not your account. It happened that I gained a lot from it. It had 8-9 thousand MMR when I started playing, and at one point, I raised it to 11 thousand — top-7 or top-5 on the ladder at that time.
It turned out that the account owner needed money badly. He secretly kept it in a Discord channel for account sales for six months. After some time, a wealthy buyer, who was into crypto, was found. He didn't care about the game; he just logged in and ruined it. The account was quickly banned.
Everyone thought I was selling accounts and making some profit. We finished 5-6th with VP at TI10, and we got a decent amount of money. It was about $150,000 if you consider all the taxes in Romania. What's the point of selling one of my two Dota accounts for $3-4 thousand when I just got $150,000? It's nonsense. People can think about what they want, but I had no reason to sell the account."
Dorokhin was suspected of selling the account in November 2021. At that time, the esports player claimed he was not involved. Virtus.pro also conducted an internal investigation and reported that the DM was innocent.
