Dota 2 Primal Beast: Complete Guide to Innate Skill and Facets

Primal Beast is one of the latest additions to the Dota 2 hero roster and is notably larger than Tidehunter, making it the biggest hero in the game. Beyond its size, Primal Beast brings a mix of durability and offensive power that makes it a formidable presence on the battlefield. In this guide, we’ll explore the best builds, facets, and strategies for mastering Primal Beast in Dota 2.

Best Build for Primal Beast in Dota 2:

Primal Beast is commonly played in the offlane due to its robust skill set and natural toughness. However, its true power lies in its ability to deal high damage and execute deadly combos. This allows Primal Beast to initiate fights, lock down enemies, and emerge relatively unscathed.

Innate Skill: Colossal:

Primal Beast's innate ability, Colossal, is straightforward but impactful. It grants a 40% bonus damage against buildings, making Primal Beast a significant threat to enemy structures after winning team fights.

Although some players feel Primal Beast’s innate ability in Update 7.36 is underwhelming compared to other heroes, its new facets provide valuable compensation.

Primal Beast's Facets:

Primal Beast received two facets that enhanced its capabilities: Ferocity and Romp N’ Stomp. Understanding these facets and choosing the right one is crucial for maximizing Primal Beast’s effectiveness in battle.

Best Facet: Ferocity:

The Ferocity facet stands out for its broad utility and impact. It grants a 10% Area of Effect (AoE) bonus per stack when Primal Beast activates Uproar (skill E). This bonus isn’t limited to Uproar; it amplifies the AoE for all of Primal Beast’s abilities, transforming it into a devastating AoE damage dealer.

Given Primal Beast’s pivotal role in team fights, this increased AoE allows it to effect more enemies with both Onslaught and Pulverize stuns. After a successful engagement, Colossal comes into play, enabling Primal Beast to swiftly demolish buildings before the enemy team can regroup.

This facet’s effectiveness is reflected in the stats, with Primal Beast's win rate showing a noticeable 1.5% increase since its introduction, despite the hero’s relatively low pick rate.

Alternative Facet: Romp N’ Stomp:

Romp N’ Stomp enhances Trample (skill W), providing a passive 4% movement speed boost and an additional 6% speed bonus to all allies within a 1,200 radius when Trample is active. While this sounds appealing, movement speed bonuses generally offer less value compared to direct combat enhancements. Therefore, Ferocity is the preferred choice for most situations.

How to Play Primal Beast in Patch 7.36:

Primal Beast’s core gameplay remains unchanged in Patch 7.36. Its facets and innate ability primarily boost its existing strengths without altering its fundamental mechanics. Here’s how to build and play Primal Beast effectively:

1. Sange and Yasha: Provides valuable stats and can be disassembled later to create Heaven’s Halberd, which is excellent against strong auto-attack heroes;

2. Black King Bar (BKB): Essential for ensuring Primal Beast can channel Pulverize without interruption, protecting against enemy disables during crucial moments;

3. Shiva’s Guard: Offers significant armor, an AoE slow, and damage reduction, making it ideal for sustaining longer in fights and reducing the enemy team’s effectiveness.

Gameplay Tips:

- Focus on building items that enhance your stats, reduce damage taken, and provide utility to maintain your presence in fights.

- Use Ferocity to maximize your AoE damage potential, allowing you to control team fights more effectively.

- Leverage Colossal to push buildings quickly after engagements, capitalizing on your team’s victories.

Now, armed with this knowledge, take to the battlefield with Primal Beast, unleash chaos, and dominate your opponents with its new facets and innate abilities.
