NS: "Canceling the DPC is a bad move. It caused the Tier-2 scene to unexpectedly die"
Analyst Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov believes that the cancellation of the DPC system negatively impacted the Dota 2 esports scene. He thinks that now tier-2 teams have nowhere to play.
"I think canceling the DPC is a bad move. When we have something, we don't appreciate it. But when we lose it, we start to miss it and realize that we should have valued it. The DPC was a good thing. It could have been refined and improved. You had a constant league, everyone played, and the best teams in the region were determined. Plus, you used to look forward to the majors. There, teams that had been competing in their regions for a few months would meet to find out who was the best. But now, there are endless tournaments with the same teams over and over."
"Additionally, the Tier-2 scene unexpectedly died. Where do they play now? Previously, players like Dendi, Nigma, Nemiga, and so on, were constantly playing. They had practice, and you could watch them. But now what? They don't get invited to Tier-1 tournaments because they're not needed. And they don't pass the qualifiers," Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov expressed his concerns.
Valve decided to abandon the DPC in the 2024 season. Company representatives explained their decision, citing overly strict requirements that led to the scene becoming less diverse and less enjoyable.
