NS on The International: "It would be cool to see the Last Chance played in a Swiss format."

Analyst Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov has expressed his thoughts on the tournament format of The International series in Dota 2. He believes that it wouldn't hurt to adopt the Swiss system commonly used in traditional sports.

"It would be exciting to have an additional qualification round for TI. It would be cool to see the Last Chance played in a Swiss format.

Let's imagine a scenario: without the DPC, Valve would invite teams to The International based on their own methodology, considering their achievements throughout the year. They would invite those they desire. Picture this: they invite eight teams, and before the main stage of the tournament, there would be a Swiss stage with 16 participants, with eight of them advancing to the event. [...]

Invites are great. However, teams can demonstrate in fair competition that someone unexpected is in good form." - Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov

In March 2024, Valve released the first details of The International 2024. The world championship will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in September. The 16,000-seat Royal Arena will host some of the event's matches.
