Riyadh Masters 2025: New Rules and Prospects for a Major Dota 2 Tournament

The organisers of the Esports World Cup have announced that the upcoming 2025 championship will feature a new tournament from the Riyadh Masters series for Dota 2. The event is scheduled to take place next summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with further details, including the prize pool, to be revealed at a later date.

The previous Riyadh Masters 2024, held from 4th to 21st July in Riyadh, saw 20 teams competing for a massive $5 million prize pool. However, the 2025 edition is set to introduce significant regulatory changes.

New Team Composition Rules

One of the key changes is a prohibition on forming teams with players from multiple clubs. While the 2024 tournament allowed setups like the G2 x iG collaboration, where players from different organisations united under one roster, this will no longer be permitted in 2025.

The organisers explained that this measure aims to enhance competitive integrity and standardise the rules. Exceptions to this rule may only be granted if specifically authorised by the game developers.

Mandatory Single-Tag Participation

Teams must now compete under a unified tag to qualify for points contributing to the Esports World Cup leaderboard. This move is designed to strengthen club identity and increase their prominence within the global competitive ecosystem.

Future Updates

The organisers have also indicated that a comprehensive set of tournament rules will be released in early 2025. Further adjustments to the regulations are expected, ensuring fair play and clarity for all participants.

The Riyadh Masters 2025 promises to be one of the most anticipated esports events of the year. With the introduction of new rules, the tournament will adopt a distinctive format, heightening interest among players and fans alike.
