Tundra Halts BetBoom's Momentum at Riyadh Masters 2024

After a grueling three-game series, Tundra put an end to BetBoom's impressive lower bracket run at Riyadh Masters 2024.

The fourth day of Riyadh Masters 2024 was filled with intense elimination matches. Weibo Xtreme Gaming was the first to be eliminated by the BetBoom Team. Next, the defending champions, Team Spirit, faced a surprising elimination by PSG.Quest. The final series of the day saw BetBoom returning to the stage to face Tundra.

BetBoom is known for its momentum-driven playstyle and seemed to be on an upward trajectory after crushing two key opponents, including one earlier in the day. Save reported before the series that they “felt very confident in their drafts and quite strong.” 

Spoiler Alert: It wasn’t enough.

After convincingly taking the first match, BetBoom exited the event quietly by the third game.

Game 1:  

BetBoom opened the series with a Sand King first pick, a hero known for its versatility and difficulty to counter. Tundra responded with a Morphling position 4, a strategy popularized by Boxxi. Despite Moonmeander’s claim that “Pure is the best Morphling player in the world,” he had little impact in this game. Tundra struggled throughout the match, eventually succumbing to BetBoom, who took a decisive first-game advantage.

Game 2:  

Tundra chose Sven as their first pick, but their draft appeared lackluster, including a Rubick for Topson, who they had just lost with, along with Vengeful Spirit and Marci, both with low win rates. However, everything clicked for Tundra this time, and Topson delivered an outstanding performance on Rubick. The game was strange but ended with Tundra tying up the series and forcing a third game.

Game 3:  

In the deciding match, both teams refreshed their lineups and strategies. Tundra continually picked up kills, controlling the game from start to finish. BetBoom seemed to bleed out slowly, unable to handle Tundra’s Dragon Knight. Almost nothing went right for BetBoom, and what started as a promising series ended in defeat, leading to their exit from the tournament.

BetBoom’s journey at Riyadh Masters 2024 ends in 5-6th place, earning them $300,000. Tundra continues their run in the lower brackets, securing at least a top 4 placement.
