Yellow Submarine was awarded a technical defeat during the draft of the fourth map against 1win in the grand final of the closed qualifiers for Elite League 2024 Season 2 in Dota 2. The team made an error while banning a character for the opponents.
Initially, Daniil "erase" Ivanov picked Pangolier instead of Storm Spirit on the last pick and left the server. One of his teammates stated that the mid-laner lost the reconnection button and couldn't return to the game. During the first rehost, the teams mixed upsides, and in the second rehost, Yellow Submarine banned Windranger (1win's choice) and received a technical loss — the score in the match became 2:2.
Community reaction to the Yellow Submarine situation:
"This is absurd," said Rustam "Adekvat" Mavlyutov, the commentator of the YeS — 1win match.
"It's not a bug or a match ticket error. They draft differently. Apparently, due to YeS accidentally banning Windranger, the admins made the score 2:2. I'm losing my mind," expressed commentator Arseniy "ArsZeeqq" Usov.
"The series went from 2:0 in favor of Yellow Submarine (originally it was 2:0) to 2:2. It's a tough situation for the players. They're always close to a quota, and now they've almost lost it, giving away a map due to two misclicks — not even in the game. Let's see if they have the fortitude for the fifth map," commented Vladimir "Maelstorm" Kuzminov.
At the time of the news publication, YeS and 1win are fighting on the fifth map. The winner will secure a slot for the Peruvian LAN event from Eastern Europe.
Elite League 2024 Season 2 will take place from July 25 to August 4 in Lima. Participants, including MOUZ and Execration, will compete for $800,000.
