Top 10 Heroes for Counter-Initiation

Last Top-10 article was about the most potent combining characters. Useful, but may not be enough. Counter-initiation is an important strategy in Dota 2. When the enemy team engages, having heroes that can quickly turn the fight in your favor is crucial. These heroes react to the enemy's initiation and disrupt their plans. Here is a list of the top 10 heroes for counter-initiation. These heroes can punish aggressive opponents, control the fight, and give their team a chance to survive or win.

Earthshaker

Earthshaker is one of the best counter-initiators in Dota 2. His skills are designed to punish grouped enemies. His Fissure can block enemy paths and stop them from retreating. After that, Earthshaker can follow up with Echo Slam, which deals massive damage if enemies are clustered together.

His ultimate, Echo Slam, is one of the most robust counter-initiation tools. It punishes teams that dive in too deeply. Combined with Blink Dagger, Earthshaker can appear suddenly and unleash his combo. This can instantly turn the tide of a fight.

Sand King's ability to control and disrupt fights makes him a strong counter-initiator. His skills can punish teams that dive in too aggressively. With Blink Dagger, Sand King can position himself perfectly to start his combo.

Tidehunter

Tidehunter is one of the most durable counter-initiators in the game. His high durability allows him to survive the enemy's first attacks. After surviving the initial burst, Tidehunter can use Ravage. Ravage is a significant AoE stun that covers a wide area, making it very hard to avoid.

Tidehunter's ability to take hits and still counter-initiate makes him valuable in team fights. Enemies need to be careful about diving when Tidehunter is around. His Ravage can turn fights instantly by stunning all nearby enemies.

Phoenix

Phoenix has powerful team-fight abilities that make her a great counter-initiator. Supernova, her ultimate, forces enemies to attack the egg or risk getting stunned. Supernova can stop enemies from diving too deep when used at the right time. It also gives Phoenix's team time to regroup.

Phoenix can also use Icarus Dive and Fire Spirits to slow enemies and deal damage. These abilities work well for punishing over-aggressive teams. Phoenix's skills help control the battlefield, giving her team a chance to turn the fight around.

Axe is a tanky hero who excels at jumping into the middle of fights. His Berserker's Call forces enemies to attack him, which disrupts their focus. This ability is excellent for counter-initiating because it distracts enemies from hitting other targets.

Axe also has Counter Helix, which damages all nearby enemies when attacked. This makes Axe very dangerous to dive on. He can punish melee heroes exceptionally well. If the enemy team dives, Axe can jump in, taunt them, and allow his team to follow up with damage.
